Milling is a kind of cutting method which takes the rotary motion of the milling cutter as the main motion and takes the milling cutter or workpiece as the feed motion. It is characterized by:

    1. Multi edge cutting tools are used for processing, and the cutting edges are rotated for cutting. The cooling effect of the tool is good and the durability is high.
    2. Milling has high production efficiency and wide processing range. Using various milling cutters on ordinary milling machines can complete processing tasks such as plane (parallel plane, vertical plane, inclined plane), step, groove (right angle groove, V-shaped groove, T-shaped groove, dovetail groove and other special grooves) and special surface. In addition, the use of milling machine accessories such as indexing head can also complete the milling of spline shaft, screw shaft, tooth clutch and other workpieces.
    3. Milling has high machining accuracy, its economic machining accuracy is generally it9-it7, and the surface roughness Ra value is generally 12.5-1.6um. The precision of fine milling can reach it5, and the surface roughness Ra value can reach 0.20um.
Because of the above characteristics, milling is particularly suitable for the processing of complex composite parts such as molds, and plays a very important role in the mold manufacturing industry. With the rapid development of numerical control technology, milling plays an increasingly important role in machining, especially in the machining of various special surfaces, which has incomparable advantages over other machining methods. At present, on the 5-axis CNC milling machining center, it can even complete the copying and processing of the whole artwork continuously with high efficiency.

The characteristic of milling processing is that the cutter rotates at high speed under the driving of the spindle while the workpiece is relatively stationary. The difference between turning and milling: turning is used to process the parts of the rotary body. The parts are clamped on the spindle of the machine tool through the three gripper chuck and rotate at high speed. Then the turning tool is used to follow the generatrix of the rotary body to cut out the product shape. The lathe can also process internal holes, threads, undercuts, etc., and the latter two are low-speed processing.

The selection of cutting fluid needs to be selected according to the processing material, equipment, process and other factors. Guangzhou liannuo chemical provides a variety of water-based and oil-based cutting fluids, including cutting fluids suitable for aluminum alloy, stainless steel, copper aluminum alloy and other processing. Precision machining requires high lubricity of cutting fluid. Generally, cutting oil is used. If cooling and cleaning are to be considered, microemulsion containing extreme pressure agent can be used; General water-based cutting fluid can be used for the processing of ordinary workpieces. It is recommended to use semi synthetic water-based cutting fluid, which has good lubrication, cooling and cleaning properties. However, for special materials, such as aluminum, copper and other non-ferrous metals, the corrosion and oxidation of metal materials by cutting fluid shall be considered.
